Privacy Policy

Who we are

This site hosts a randomizer and a collection of tools and information related to the games NES Open Tournament Golf and Mario Open Golf. This site is fan-run, and has no affiliation with Nintendo or any of its partners.

For any questions regarding privacy or user data, please contact privacy [at sign] nesopengolf [dot] com. (Replace the [at sign] with @, [dot] with . and remove all spaces.)

What we collect

Users can sign in to the site using Discord OAuth. We only request the identify scope, which consists of access to user's Discord user ID, username, display name, and avatar. Discord provides OAuth "access" and "refresh" tokens which we use to keep users signed in.

On this site, users can generate data, broadly categorized as game scores and game activity. Game data includes, but isn't limited to rounds played, round/hole scores, and activity timestamps.

On the technical side, IP addresses may be written to server logs, and session cookies are used for login.

How we use it

Discord identity data is used for authenticating users, facilitating scored games, and displaying leaderboards. Usernames and scores are visible to other users, including signed-out visitors.

Technical data such as IP addresses and any other information written to server logs is only used for diagnosing bugs and tracking overall server load. Logs are rotated on a regular basis and no attempt is made at tracking individual users' activity.

Who we share data with

We sell no data. Service providers process it on our behalf: Linode hosts the server and Backblaze stores encrypted database backups. Currently all data is stored in the United States.

Cookies and local storage

A session cookie is used to keep users signed in. Local storage is used to verify that users have the NES Open Tournament Golf and/or Mario Open Golf ROM files and to apply patches for users. The local storage can be cleared in the ROM Setup page, linked in this site's header.

ROM files remain in your browser and are never uploaded to our server.

A cookie is used to save download settings (player name, club bag, etc.) as a convenience to the player. It contains only the data entered by the player in the Download panel, with no Discord or internal ID values. The free-text "Player Name" field is included in this cookie.

Retention and deletion

Information is kept as long as users have an active account with the site. Users may request deletion by emailing the privacy address in the "Who we are" section above. Users may revoke our access to their Discord identity details at any time from their Discord authorized apps settings. Potentially identifying technical details on the server (IP Addresses, etc.) are anonymized or removed within 90 days.

When users request deletion of account data, their scores will be removed from leaderboards, but scoring data may be kept in the database but tied to an anonymized User ID instead of anything personal or identifiable.

Children

Discord requires users to be at least 13 in most regions. This site is not aimed at children under 13.

Your rights

You can request a copy, correction, or deletion of your data at the privacy address above. We process it to provide the site you signed up for (contract) and to keep it running securely (legitimate interests). Users in the EU or UK may also file a complaint with their local data protection authority.

Changes

We will handle changes to this policy based on what changes:

Do Not Track

This site performs no cross-site tracking and treats all visitors the same regardless of Do Not Track signals.
